Basalt Paper is a small barbershop built around one idea: nobody should be rushed out of the chair. Clippers, scissors, straight razor, and the time to use them properly.

We cut hair the way it grows.
Most of what makes a cut look right happens before the clippers come out — how your hair sits, where it parts, what you can actually be bothered to do with it on a Tuesday. We start there, then work to a shape that still looks deliberate six weeks later.
- Unhurried chair time Every appointment is booked with room around it. No double-booking, no cutting one head while another waits under a towel.
- A conversation before a cut We talk it through first — length, weight, how it grows at the crown — so you leave with the cut you pictured, not the one that was quickest.
- A shape that grows out well Anything can look sharp on the day. We cut for week four, so the shape softens instead of falling apart.

Prices are flat — no length surcharge, no separate charge for a wash. Times below are the full chair time, consultation included.

The full cut
Consultation, wash, scissor or clipper cut, neck and edges finished with a razor, then styled dry so you can see how it sits.

Skin fade
A graduated fade taken down to the skin, blended by hand rather than by guard numbers, with the top cut to match the drop.

Beard shape
Lines set with a straight razor, length taken down evenly, cheek and neck lines placed where your growth actually sits. Hot towel to finish.

Hot-towel shave
The long version: towels, pre-shave oil, lather brushed on warm, two passes with the straight razor, cold towel and balm at the end.

Tidy-up between cuts
A short appointment for necklines, edges and around the ears — for keeping a fresh cut sharp in the weeks after it.
Cutting a cut and a beard in the same visit? Book the cut and mention the beard in your note — we will hold the extra time rather than rush both.
Two chairs, good light, no queue at the door.
A narrow shop with the bench down one side. Records on, coffee if you want one, and enough space that nobody is standing over your shoulder waiting for your seat.
When the doors are open.
Appointments fill first, but there is usually a gap somewhere in the day. If you are passing, put your head in — if a chair is free, it is yours.

Before your first visit.
What happens on a first appointment?
We spend the first few minutes talking — what you have had before, what you liked or did not, how much time you want to spend on it at home. Bring a photo if you have one; it is quicker than describing a fade.
Do you cut children’s hair?
Yes, from about five upwards. Book the full cut and mention their age in your note so we can put them in a quieter slot early in the day.
Can I come in for beard work only?
Of course. The beard shape and the hot-towel shave are both booked on their own — no haircut required.
Do you sell the products you use?
We keep a small shelf of the clay, sea salt spray and beard oil we work with on the bench. We will tell you honestly if your hair does not need any of it.
What if I am running late?
Let us know and we will do what we can. Past fifteen minutes we may have to shorten the appointment so the chair after yours is not pushed back.
